Out of Darkness Community Walk

Activity: Walking and fundraising for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Invite your friends, family, and other organizations to participate through the Rhoyale Spark/TCS Sigma Gamma Rho team so that the awareness is widespread!
Pillars: LEAD. EMPOWER. TRANSFORM.
Join the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the nation’s largest privately funded organization dedicated to suicide prevention through research, education, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide. This vital cause brings national attention to the growing mental health crisis while offering critical resources to those in need.
In response to the call to action from Immediate Past Grand International Basileus, Soror Rasheeda Liberty, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. – Theta Chi Sigma Chapter, for the second year in a row, proudly joins the effort to confront and change the narrative around mental health.
Our mission is deeply personal. In 2022, our chapter lost one of our own, Soror Alexandria Dudley, lovingly in Sigmaland known as Rhoyale Spark, daughter of Soror Janet Grison. In her honor, our team marches forward—committed to breaking the silence and stigma surrounding mental health.
Background: In 2022, suicide was among the top 9 leading causes of death for individuals ages 10–64, and it was the second leading cause for those ages 10–14 and 25–34. Suicide is often linked to other forms of trauma, including abuse, bullying, and violence. Risk can be reduced when individuals have access to mental healthcare, strong family and community ties, and supportive environments.
Together, we lead with purpose, empower through awareness, and transform lives by standing as advocates for change. Let’s continue this essential work—honoring those we’ve lost and protecting those still here.
